Our history

Originally built between 1926 and 1930, our Grade II Listed building was designed by the world renowned architect, Sir Herbert Baker as a meeting place for Christian Scientists. It was bought by Emmanuel Church in 1997 and has operated as a Christian church ever since.

The building has a distinctive atmosphere, an elegant marble foyer, high vaulted ceilings inscribed with bible inscriptions and huge columns and other standout architecture throughout. The Auditorium features a huge glass dome (construction pictured here), a smaller version of which can be found in Church House down the road, which was also designed by Herbert Baker.

The Emmanuel Centre opened as a business in 1997 and has hosted education, corporate, entertainment, political and Christian events over its three-decade history.
